DANCE APPAREL

"When you dress like a dancer you will act and dance like a dancer."

I strive to hold my standards very high not only on the modesty of the music and choreography, but also the modesty of the dancers costumes and attire while in class and in the recitals.  This helps everyone including the audience feel more comfortable and keep the innocence of the children intact.

Leotards:
STARTING FALL 2015 OUR NEW POLICY FOR LEOTARDS IS ALL DANCERS WILL NEED A NUDE CAPEZIO CAMISOLE ONE PIECE LEOTARD FOR PERFORMANCES.  THIS WILL ALLOW DANCERS TO CHANGE COLORS OF LEOTARDS DURING THE SHOW WHILE STILL HAVING THE PRIVACY AND COMFORT OF A LEOTARD STILL ON.

Recommended leotard:  All Dancers will be sized at the beginning of the semester and parents will be notified of their size so as to know what to order.

To class dancers may wear their other leotards as long as the leotards are one piece.

Tights
We chose white tights because they are the most cost effective and you can find them at many department stores.  If your dancer has out grown her footed tights or she has holes in the toes, cut off the feet on the tights and make them into footless tights.  No need to hem them they will not run.

As for my favorites on tights I really like the Body Wrappers Footed Soft Supplex brand.
Item number A30 for adult sizes and C30 for Children sizes
For tan tights:  Jazzy Tan is the best.

For Footless tights the Capezio Footless 140C for children and 140 for adults.  The are a little more expensive than footed tights.

Ballet Slippers:
For a beginner the Payless Shoe Source full sole slipper is a great beginner shoe.

For a wide foot the Capezio Daisy Ballet slippers is nice and wide even in the narrow width.

For the intermediate dancer the split sole ballet slipper is recommended, but not required.

Capezio and Bloch are my favorite brands and hold up the best.

For the more advanced dancer the Bloch Elastosplit is the shoe that I wear and recommend.

The longevity of leather is twice to three time better than canvas.
If you choose to get ballet slippers remember they must have non slip grips for added safety.

Tip:  Have a hole in your ballet slipper put duct tape on the inside of the shoe to repair it before it gets bigger.

Non-Slip Grips for Ballet Slippers:
Even though ballet slippers are NOT required in all classes many of the dancers love to wear them.  If you daughter chooses to wear ballet slippers they will need to have non slip grips on the bottom of their slippers.  Since we dance on wood floors they tend to be slick if your dancer(s) leather on the bottom smooths out from wear or have any dust from wearing them.  For safety we require them to have non-slip grips ($2 for a pair).  After applied dancers should not dance on carpet.  It would also wear their ballet slippers out much more quickly.

Dance Apparel Exchange:
We offer a dance apparel exchange program where you may rummage through donations and use any of the items and when finished with them please return them or add any items you might have that your daughter has outgrown.  For the last 4 years we have offered this program as a way to cut costs down on purchasing apparel and it has been amazing to see how many girls have benefited from the used items.
